About Me
Salvatore Docimo, Jr., DO, MBA, FACS, FASMBS, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified general surgeon offering expert gastrointestinal surgery services at USF Health. Within the GI Surgery division, Dr. Docimo specializes in bariatric surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR), hernia repair and advanced therapeutic endoscopy services. Dr. Docimo’s goal is to help patients achieve a healthy lifestyle while minimizing their recovery time. As such, he uses the latest technology, advanced techniques and minimally invasive treatments, including robotic surgery.
In additional to patient care, Dr. Docimo is also very involved in research and has a given lectures on both the international and national stage. As a researcher, Dr. Docimo has contributed to over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and multiple book chapters. He is also the editor of three textbooks: Clinical Algorithms in General Surgery: A Practical Guide, Fundamentals of Hernia Radiology, and Operating through the Endoscope. Dr. Docimo is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also actively involved in the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Americas Hernia Society (AHS) where he serves as the Chair of the AHS Education Committee and sites on the AHS Board, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
