Michael Cook
Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery
LSU Health New Orleans
New Orleans
After 10 years in a busy private practice setting, I returned to academics to start a bariatric surgery program at a large safety net hospital. I have since started a bariatric surgery fellowship, and continue to have a busy clinical practice focusing on hernia and foregut as well as bariatric surgery. I tend to treat the more complex cases (lap bypass after open nissen, redo heller myotomy, BMI 90+ patients, etc.) that other surgeons have passed on or that don't quite fit into traditional treatment algorithms.
My areas of unique practice include:
Use of autologous skin graft for hernia repair
Complex revisional bariatric and foregut procedures
Treatment of high BMI (over 60) patients
New Technology/Innovation (I use senhance as well as davinci)
