I am an Assistant Professor of Surgery and a Surgeon-Scientist at Duke University with clinical focus in metabolic and weight loss surgery and benign foregut surgery. My academic interests include applied Artificial Intelligence and understanding how clinicians interact with AI platforms in healthcare. I can speak about how to prepare healthcare organizations to be AI-ready, including building strong data governance, compute environment, data science team, co-creation models, and AI solutions. I have experiences in developing, evaluating, and implementing AI solutions at our hospital, such as real-time clinical prediction tools on patient wards to reduce mortality. I can speak about the quality of interaction constructs between AI and human clinicians when such AI solutions are implemented, including trust, acceptability, reliability, and ethical concerns.
