This video describes a hybrid endoscopic and transgastric laparoscopic technique to remove a magnetic sphincter augmentation device discovered to be eroded into the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract at the gastroesophageal junction. Placing laparoscopic trocars through an unaffected area of the stomach allowed the inflammatory tissue around the gastroesophageal junction to be avoided. As greater numbers of magnetic sphincter augmentation devices are inserted worldwide, general surgeons will need to have techniques available to treat complications. This approach appears to be a safe technique for removal of a magnetic sphincter augmentation device in the setting of device erosion.
