The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville, is seeking two General Surgeons at the non-tenure accruing level of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor. The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville is a tertiary referral center that serves the population of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. It is home to the divisions of General Surgery/Surgical Oncology, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Trauma/Acute Care/Critical Care, and Vascular Surgery.
We are seeking a candidate with broad clinical experience in general surgery with a particular interest in abdominal wall reconstruction, hernia repair, gallbladder disease, and foregut surgery. The candidate must be MD or DO, Board Certified/Eligible in General Surgery with experience in all aspects of the evaluation and treatment including minimally invasive approaches of robotic and laparoscopic surgery.
Major responsibilities include building an elective general surgery practice as well as providing education of medical students and residents and participating in research. Candidate will join an extremely diverse academic general surgery practice inclusive of growing an advanced GI/MIS, endoscopic, and oncologic program.
This position will report to the Chief of General Surgery and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville. Every faculty member in the department will have a mentoring team assigned to them and participate in the department wide faculty development program.
The following is a general description of duties and responsibilities:
- Provide and maintain a high level of quality in-patient intermediate care services in all aspects of General Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery
- Provide clinical teaching of trainees in General Surgery and participate in the educational program.
- Be responsible for excellent communication with primary care physicians.
- Assist in marketing the General Surgery Programs to community physicians and managed care organizations.
- Participate in monthly division meetings, administrative functions and institutional committees as requested.
