The Department of Surgery at New York University Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a candidate for a one-year research fellowship to start July 2023 and end June 2024.   This position is ideal for an existing categorical surgery resident who is interested in taking time off to pursue research endeavors in the field of obesity and metabolic surgery.  The position is based at Health and Hospitals-Bellevue Hospital, located at 462 First Avenue, adjacent to the NYU Medical Center Complex (550 First Avenue). Qualifications are MD or equivalent. The research fellow is expected to continue/complete ongoing research projects, develop new research objectives, projects and proposals; use the EPIC infrastructure to create reports of clinical outcomes; identify research funding and apply for grants; write manuscripts and present work at national meetings.
Bellevue Hospital is the oldest public hospital in the United States and is the largest safety-net hospital in NYC.  The Bellevue Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program has been MBSAQIP accredited since 2010 and currently performs approximately 3000 bariatric procedures annually.   The research fellow should be able to leverage the high clinical volume not only at Bellevue Hospital but also within the HHC network as well as the NYU Langone Network (additional 2000 procedures annually).
