SAGES Robotic Resident Course

Date: May 19 (FULL), 24, 25, and 26 (FULL), 2023 (4 separate one-day courses)

Location: The SAGES Robotic Resident Courses will take place at the Intuitive Surgical training lab in Norcross, GA (ATL airport)

Course Faculty: TBA

Goals: To advance the skills of general surgery residents in their finishing years with robotic MIS techniques using KindHeart models (patient positioning, instrument options, port placement and docking, anatomy review, procedure review, best practices and advanced techniques, energy control, tissue dissection, suturing techniques, troubleshooting: emergency procedures, fault recognition)

Residents: PGY 4 & 5 (exceptions made BOE)

Requirements:

  • Availability of Robotic Surgery (Xi system) in Residency Program
  • Completion of basic robotic training including modules and console training (ideally 20+ console cases)
  • Case logs 

Agenda (approximated):

All lectures are pre-recorded and shared with attendees upon acceptance to course

Arrival the afternoon or evening prior to selected course, check into hotel

    • 6:45am check out of hotel, shuttle from hotel to lab
    • 7:00am lab check-in, breakfast, introductions, program overview
    • 8:00am transition to lab
    • 12:00pm lunch with Q&A
    • 12:45pm transition to lab
    • 3:00pm adjourn

Review Process: Applications will be reviewed for eligibility by SAGES

Fees: The SAGES Robotics Resident Courses are free of charge* for all selected applicants.

SAGES gratefully acknowledges Intuitive Surgical for their generous educational grant in support of the SAGES Robotics Resident Course. Air travel, lodging, select meals*, and select ground transportation* are covered by the grant.

*Ground transportation from the hotel to the lab, and from the lab to the airport for departure are covered by the grant. Ground transportation upon arrival, such as from the ATL airport to the hotel, is the responsibility of the traveler. Breakfast and lunch are provided on the day of the course; all other melas are the responsibility of the traveler.

Registration

Registration is open. Please do not make travel plans prior to receiving an acceptance letter to the course from the SAGES office, which will be sent shortly after submission. Once you are accepted to participate in the course, detailed instructions on how to book flight and hotel through our travel agent will be forwarded to you. If you are not accepted for the course due to capacity limits, you will be automatically added to our waitlist. Should there be a cancellation, the space will be allotted to the next applicant in line. Eligible applicants who are unable to attend from the waitlist will have first priority for future course dates.
