SAGES offers recognition opportunities for fellows who have completed their training and are exemplary general surgeons with special qualifications in Advanced GI MIS, Comprehensive Flexible Endoscopy, and/or Advanced Flexible Endoscopy. These programs are intended to verify a fellow’s advanced training and expertise, helping to market their skills to patients, hospitals, and referring physicians.
The application and fee must be submitted by July 31, 2025. Applicants will then have one year – from the end of their fellowship or from Board Certification, whichever comes first – to upload or confirm all requirements. Fellows need to have completed training in an Advanced GI MIS and/or Comprehensive Flexible Endoscopy fellowship (can be dual or multiple designated programs) in order to apply for the certificates.
Advanced GI MIS fellows who are not in a Comprehensive Flexible Endoscopy fellowship may still qualify for the SAGES ACT Seal in Flexible Endoscopy.

Fellows applying for an Advanced GI MIS Certificate (Options 1–3) can have their $100 application fee waived in exchange for helping the Society pilot its new Video Based Assessment (VBA). To qualify, the fellow must submit two unedited videos of MIS fundoplication cases in which they acted as the Primary Surgeon. Procedure can be laparoscopic or robotically-assisted but must be the same for both videos. To learn more see link below.
