Stryker Endoscopy (San Jose, CA) received FDA approval for the updated Stryker 1788 4K Camera System with Advanced Imaging Modality on September 20, 2023.
The 1788 Platform is the latest in the long line of Stryker endoscopic camera systems. It is the first update since the release of the 1688 AIM 4K in 2019 and the 7th generation since the original 1088 was released in 2004. This generation boasts updates to hardware, software improvements to improve light-balancing and enhancements to the fluorescence imaging capabilities.
Improvements to the OR cart were a focus on the 1788 platform, starting with a high-performance 32” 4K OLED Surgical monitor. OLED technology works without a backlight because it emits its own visible light, which means it offers high contrast and deep black levels. However, because they are not backlit, they perform best in conditions of low ambient light.
The 1788 Platform also features an image processing technology upgrade that they call “Tone Mode” that solves for poorly lit areas in the surgical field. This mode is meant to even the light distribution between the foreground and less well-lit background areas and can be applied in a graduated manner.
The fluorescence mode has also had upgrades including enhanced display of the fluorescent signal in the color overlay mode (green signal over the bright light image). Additionally, in this FDA submission, the platform has been cleared for use with CYTALUXTM (pafalocianine), a fluorescent drug that targets folate receptors which are overexpressed in ovarian cancer.
