Introduction: Although epigastric hernia is very common in the population and its repair procedure is relatively simple, it is observed that there is no consistent and universally accepted approach to the correction of epigastric hernias. Is recognized the need for guidelines based on better evidence to delineate when indicating the primary closure or when the use of the prosthetic material is essential, as well as the best surgical access and technique for the repair of these defects of the abdominal wall. This video demonstrates the recent technique of subcutaneous videolaparoscopic approach for reconstruction of abdominal wall defects (SVAWD) in a patient with recurrent incisional hernia in the epigastrium.
Objectives: Demonstration of an unconventional approach to and repair of incisional epigastric hernia.
Methods: A videolaparoscopy tower with digital recording system was used to record the surgical procedure of subcutaneous approach for the correction of incisional hernia.
Conclusion: SVAWD showed to be a safe, minimally invasive, efficient and pioneering alternative technique for the correction of abdominal wall defects.
