Laparoscopic caudate lobectomy

This talk was presented by Joseph Buell, MD at the Postgraduate Course: ILLS Joint Session – Techniques of Laparoscopic Liver Resection Video Session and Liver Tumor Board on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the SAGES 2017 Annual Meeting.

Dr. Buell reviews approaches to one of the more challenging segments of the liver, segment 1. The approach to the caudate process, para-caval caudate, and the Spigelian lobe varies. The hilar structures to both right and left hemilivers and all three hepatic outflow veins have intimate relations with the caudate lobe and thus emphasis is made on pre-operative planning and intraoperative techniques to avoid injury to any neighboring vital structures.
