Top Surgeons to Convene for SAGES 2016 Annual Meeting, March 16-19 | New Features to Include Robotics Debate and SAGES Masters Series

February 23, 2016 by SAGES Webmaster

The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) will convene more than 2,000 surgeons at its annual meeting in March to advance quality patient care through education, research, innovation and leadership. The 2016 meeting will continue a long-standing tradition of strong didactic sessions by experts, combined with exploration of innovative technology and medical breakthroughs in the fields of general, upper GI, colorectal, endoscopic, robotic and minimally invasive surgery (MIS). This year’s meeting will be held at the Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Boston, MA, March 16th through 19th.

Chaired by Drs. Robert D. Fanelli and Thadeus L. Trus, the program for the 2016 meeting focuses on relevant clinical problems that surgeons encounter every day in their practices. New features this year include:

  • Robotics Debates: Robotically Assisted Hernia Repair, Thursday, March 17th, 9AM in Room 312 and Residents, Robots or Both? Friday, March 18th, 2PM in Ballroom B –   Renowned experts will debate the risks and benefits of utilizing robotically assisted surgery in these debates, how robotic surgery fits into the framework of surgical education as well as provide technical assistance, clinical and financial outcomes.
  • The SAGES Masters Series – In-depth presentations grouped by topic (Foregut Disease, Hernia, Colorectal, Flexible Endoscopy) will be offered throughout the meeting by world recognized master surgeons and will provide techniques and tips that you can use immediately to take your practice to the next level.

The exhibit hall will feature the latest equipment and instruments in the field, many of which are debuted at the meeting. Additionally, as part of SAGES mission to promote global collaboration and exchange of knowledge, multiple sessions will be webcast internationally to over 2,000 participants in partnership with other leading surgical organizations.  A Mini Medical School for high school students, featuring video games that help decrease errors and robotic helicopters, will allow students to show that they have the “right stuff” to join the future ranks of laparoscopic surgeons.
