I am a general and minimally invasive surgeon who has a solo practice in a rural community that has limited resources. Despite these limitations, I was able to facilitate starting and then expanding a robotics program at my hospital. I have become proficient in working with hospital administrators to obtain equipment and technology so that high level patient care can be delivered my institution. As a result, I was selected to be the Chief Medical Officer at my hospital in January 2024.
I am also interested in speaking about the business of surgery, especially for those starting out or those looking to transition practices later in their career. There is so much that is never taught during training that becomes trial and error during our early years of practice. I can speak on contract negotiations, insurance billing and payments, opening your own private practice, getting referrals and on line presence and social media. I can also speak on hospital leadership in community hospitals and how to work with administration to start programs and develop policies.
