Dr. Shaneeta Johnson is a Professor of Surgery, Chief of Minimally Invasive, Robotic, and Bariatric Surgery, and Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. She is also a Senior Fellow in Global Health Equity at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute and an inaugural fellow of the NMA/Medical Consortium on Climate Change and Health Climate Change and Health Equity Fellowship. She is an experienced surgeon, speaker, clinician, educator, and researcher.
Dr. Johnson is an expert in robotic minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, health equity, climate change, and environmental justice. Dr. Johnson has served on advisory panels for the FDA, JCAHO, and legislative committees.
Dr. Johnson received her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from The Johns Hopkins University, medical degree from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine, surgical training at Howard University Hospital, and Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, and the International College of Surgeons. She is board certified in both General Surgery and Obesity Medicine. She has been appointed to leadership positions within state and national organizations, committees, and editorial boards, including Past President of the Georgia Chapter of ASMBS, serving on the boards of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and the Surgical Section of the National Medical Association. Dr. Johnson is a member of the planning committee of the National Academy of Medicine Action Collaborative on Decarbonizing the US Health Sector and the Joint Commission Environmental Sustainability Technical Advisory Panels.
