Practice Description | Dr. Kim I. de la Cruz obtained his medical degree from the University of the Philippines, and did his General Surgery residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York. He then moved to Houston and completed his Thoracic Surgery residency at the combined Texas Heart Institute/Baylor College of Medicine program. He did an additional year of Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship in the same institution, focusing on Aortic Surgery with mentor Dr. Joseph S. Coselli. After fellowship, he was invited to stay on as faculty, and was Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine and staff Cardiovascular Surgeon at the Texas Heart Institute, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center until March 2019. In April 2019, he started his new position as the Director of Aortic Surgery for the Methodist Healthcare System | HCA Healthcare San Antonio Division, based at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. His clinical and research interests include diseases of the aorta requiring complex open or endovascular repairs, heart valve repair or replacement, myocardial revascularization, redo operations, mechanical circulatory support, and heart and lung transplantation. Dr. de la Cruz is committed to providing the finest, patient-oriented care to those with thoracic aortic disease and other complex cardiovascular problems.
