Practice Description | Dr. Guilherme Campos is gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon with a career dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of malignant and benign esophageal and gastric diseases and obesity. Dr. Campos is the Professor and Chair of the Division of Bariatric and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Campos is certified by the American Board of Surgery, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, among others. He is a gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon who specializes and has extensive experience with traditional and minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat esophageal and gastric diseases (both benign and malignant/cancer diseases) and laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Dr. Campos’ research has focused on treatment outcomes after minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures for esophageal and bariatric surgery. He has authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles and chapters in books and has presented his work at more than 100 national and international meetings. Dr. Campos has trained 16 Clinical Fellows in Laparoscopic Esophageal and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Campos earned his medical and doctorate degrees in surgery at the University of Parana’s School of Medicine in Brazil. He completed residencies in general surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery and completed a fellowship in thoracic and foregut surgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was a full time faculty at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and the Director of the UCSF Center for Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders and the UCSF Director of the Bariatric Surgery (2004-2009) before joining the faculty at University of Wisconsin – Madison where he was an Associate and then a Professor of Surgery. |
