Motus GI received FDA approval in September 2018 for the Pure-Vu® Slim Sleeve for use with Slim Colonoscopes.
The Pure-Vu® Slim Sleeve system is a device indicated to facilitate the cleaning of a “poorly prepped” colon during colonoscopy. The Pure-Vu® system consists of a workstation controller and a disposable single-use over-sleeve which fits on standard or slim colonoscopes; the system generates a proprietary pulsed vortexTM mixture of water and air to safely separate debris from bowel mucosa and evacuate it. The pulsed vortex is activated by foot pedal. The system will not interfere with the working channels of the colonoscope, allowing for biopsies and other procedures to be performed in standard fashion.
Successful colonoscopy requires adequate bowel preparation, ideally emptying the bowel of all fecal material. Poor preparation is associated with increased procedure time, increased risk of complication, and increased rate of missed lesions[1].
Clinical studies have found the Pure-Vu® system to be safe and effective in colonic cleansing[2], allowing for procedural success despite inadequate prep, and suggest that enhancing colonoscopy with Pure Vu may lead to lower cost and improve lesion detection[3]. Cost savings are driven by the reduced rate of aborted procedure and decreased need for follow-up colonoscopy.
The Pure-Vu® system may be used for any patient undergoing colonoscopy and the clearance of the Pure-Vu® Slim Sleeve expands the potential reach of the product to include colonoscopies which are performed with slim scopes.
