Each Proctor will administer 4 questions during the session, with 2 given to each resident/fellow in the time allotted (about 30 minutes). Each examiner should keep specific notes related to the resident’s performance on each question. The notes should be sufficiently detailed to provide justification for the resident’s grade, as well as, to provide specific feedback to the resident. At the conclusion of each candidate’s exam examination session each examiner should independently assign the resident a grade on a 3-point scale for each case presented. 1: The resident demonstrated clear deficiencies in judgment, basic surgical or technical knowledge and/or problem solving. He/she cannot manage problems safely and effectively without assistance or supervision (essentially, they failed or struggled significantly) 2: The resident has borderline deficiency in general and technical knowledge. However, despite deficits in their understanding, he/she is able to manage aspects of the case in a reasonably safe manner. (essentially, marginal pass) 3: The resident demonstrates sufficient fundamental and technical knowledge, as well as, problem solving capabilities. (essentially, clear pass)
