Dr. Stacy Brethauer is a staff surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Digestive Disease Institute and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine in 1993 while on active duty in the U.S. Navy. He completed his general surgery residency training at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and completed fellowship training in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic where he joined the staff in 2007.
He currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and is the Co-chair of the Quality Subcommittee for the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He also serves on the verification committees for the MBSAQIP program and the Fellowship Council and leads several national task forces that focus on training and patient access for bariatric surgery. He is the program director for the Cleveland Clinic’s Bariatric Surgery Fellowship and is an active researcher with over 100 publications and two textbooks on minimally invasive bariatric surgery.
