Dr. Jonathan Cohen is Clinical Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Cohen did his internship and residency at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, his gastroenterology fellowship at UCLA and an advanced therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP fellowship at the Wellesley Hospital in Toronto. He is the current Chair of the Quality Assurance in Endoscopy Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and is a past President of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Cohen has edited two textbooks of gastrointestinal endoscopy and authored many original papers and reviews in the field. He has directed numerous didactic and hands-on endoscopy courses world-wide, and has been active in the development of quality measures in endoscopy. His areas of interest include sedation for endoscopy, narrow band imaging for detection of pre-cancerous lesions, and application of innovative technologies such as virtual reality simulators and ex-vivo animal models in the training of endoscopic procedures. He is particularly interested in technological and process advances to improve the quality of colonoscopy. Dr. Cohen remains active in private gastroenterology practice in Manhattan, teaches and performs therapeutic endoscopic procedures at NYU Langone Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital.
