Service Line Vice President, Premier Performance Partners
Dr. Bimal Shah is the service line vice president of Premier Performance Partners (PPP), with responsibility for providing strategic, clinical, analytical, and research support to Premier. Dr. Shah continues to be a practicing non-invasive cardiologist who has had vast experience in clinical research and hospital clinical operations. One of the major goals of PPP is to provide wrap around services and people to the major Informatics Products and to the Group Purchasing Organization contracts to enhance the member value from these programs.
Dr. Shah has a plethora of experience and accomplishments in the areas of clinical research, quality improvement, clinical expertise and thought leadership, with 20+ years’ experience in clinical research and 6 years’ experience in hospital administration.
Dr. Shah is a national thought leader in the conduct of retrospective and observational research using large databases. He has run numerous research programs in the areas of health services research, prospective clinical trials, and registry analyses. He has served on the analysis and publications committees for the CRUSADE and AHA/ACC GWTG-ACTION registries. He has extensive experience in research using administrative claims data from a variety of sources. Dr. Shah has numerous publications in the areas of health care finance and delivery, cardiovascular outcomes, and quality assessment in cardiac care.
Dr. Shah was previously the Director of Quality Improvement for a top 10 academic health system overseeing credentialing and quality improvement initiatives for over 680 physicians. He helped to lead the implementation of Epic and Meaningful Use reporting; was responsible for care redesign efforts around bundled payments and readmissions; and oversaw numerous clinical quality and process improvement programs throughout the institution. As part of these efforts, he identified cost savings of over $2.5 million per year while ensuring the application of evidenced based care throughout 17 clinical divisions.
Dr. Shah has been a practicing physician for over 12 years and still sees patients as a non-invasive cardiologist in both inpatient and outpatients settings. He has been the director for a practice of 6 cardiologists and oversaw all aspects of administrative, operational, clinical and marketing duties for the clinic. His continued activity and leadership provides him a unique perspective on the current opportunities and challenges in optimizing care delivery.
Dr. Shah is the author of numerous articles ranging in health care finance and delivery, cardiovascular outcomes, implementation research, clinical trials and quality assessment (see attachment one).
Dr. Shah attended the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill where he graduated with highest honors and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical school training at Duke University as well as a Masters in Business Administration. He graduated from Duke with the Dean’s Recognition Award for Outstanding Leadership. After medical school, Dr. Shah completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Stanford University before finishing his general cardiology fellowship at Duke University. He is the previous recipient of the Jeremiah Stamler Distinguished Young CV Investigator Research Award.
