Which Procedure is Best? Bariatric Nuts and Bolts in 2021
The number and types of bariatric surgeries performed each year increase as we improve our clinical understanding of obesity as a disease and we increase our knowledge of procedure specific outcomes and safety profiles. This session will provide a comparison of more widely accepted surgical techniques, including the sleeve gastrectomy, the gastric bypass, and the duodenal switch, with surgical techniques that are increasingly being adopted in the US and worldwide, including the mini-gastric bypass and the SADI/SIPS procedure.
- Identify key steps of more common procedures and newer bariatric procedures being performed in the US and worldwide.
- Integrate a surgeon’s understanding of newer bariatric procedures with the more commonly performed surgeries.
- Determine which surgery would be best for a patient interested in bariatric surgery.
