The field of surgery continues to evolve and the adaptability for practicing surgeons has become paramount for better patient outcomes. Surgeons and other healthcare professionals need to know what the future of healthcare will hold and how it will affect the way they practice and how hospitals do business. In order to do so, practicing surgeons find it important to review current trends in techniques and managing complications. A review of current advances in complex general surgery enable surgeons to translate better patient care as it relates to minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, and innovative technologies in the areas of abdominal core health, esophageal and digestive disease, colorectal surgery, obesity care and health administration. Surgeons are finding that the ever changing economy, especially in Hawaii as an isolated land mass, is
affecting the way they practice, teach and work. It is important for surgeons to understand these changes and how it will affect the care provided to the patients. Lecture and discussion will give attendees the opportunity for ongoing education in advanced surgical technologies as well as
changes in the future of medicine related to MIS, healthcare costs and surgeon training. Course participants will be asked to complete a comprehensive evaluation on utilization and impact of key concepts presented in the course to help measure change in competence and performance involving Surgical Innovation, Technology and Education.
