Dr. Haru Inoue, Professor, Digestive Disease Center, Northern Yokohama Hospital, Showa University, is the innovator of the POEM technique. Professor Inoue has performed hundreds of cases of POEM for patients with achalasia in Japan and international countries since 2008.

This course will introduce the participants to the POEM technique including indications, equipment, surgical technique and post-operative care. A multidiciplinary team approach is encouraged to include surgeons , GI physicians, nurses and physician assistants.
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1 List indications and contra-indications for POEM and ESD.
2 Describe equipment neccesary for POEM and ESD.
3 Describe surgical techniques of POEM and ESD.
4 Describe pre and post-operative management in POEM and ESD.
