Transaxillary endoscopic thyroidectomy has been used more widely in recent years as technology advances. However, with monetary and time restraints of robotic use and difficulties with techniques of insufflation in a closed subcutaneous space, we utilize an alternative method of transaxillary thyroidectomy in an open system. The SPIDER surgical system uses flexible arms to provide the necessary retraction and exposure in a small, gasless working space to allow safe and easy removal of the thyroid gland.
