INTRODUCTION
To present our initial experience using the DaVinci single-site platform for cholecystectomy in a 281 bed community hospital.
METHODS AND PROCEDURES
All patients requiring cholecystectomy between 8/1/12 and 9/28/12 where offered single-site robotic cholecystectomy. Patient demographics, BMI, diagnosis, operative times and complications where recorded.
RESULTS
20 patients underwent SSRC (13 females/7 males; mean age 37 y/o; mean BMI 31). Mean surgery total time was 88min with a mean console time of 35min. There was one conversion to traditional laparoscopic approach. Two patients had previous abdominal surgery. No cholangiograms where performed. No major intra-operative complications and no post-op complications occurred. All patients where discharged the same day of surgery.
CONCLUSIONS
Single site robotic cholecystectomy is a safe and feasible option for community hospitals. Further studies are needed to evaluate the implications of this technology in the community.
