Single-incision laparoscopic splenectomy for ITP
Summary:
A technique for single incision laparoscopic splenectomy in a normal sized spleen and using a single 2cm peri-umbilical incision is demonstrated. We used three 5mm ports and straight laparoscopic instruments. This approach was chosen to allow the use of a 5mm scope, a straight (non-articulated) 5mm ultrasonic scissor and 5mm Hem-o-lok clip applicator. These were used to divide the gastrosplenic ligament and short gastric vessels, to ligate the splenic vessel by Hem-o-lok clip and mobilize the spleen. Finally, the spleen was placed in a retrieval bag and extracted through the peri-umbilical incision without extension.
