Retroperitoneal masses are uncommon. We present a 36 year old man who was incidentally found to have a retroperitoneal mass that was located behind the right adrenal and abutting the vena cava on an MRI of the abdomen. The mass appeared benign in nature and a conservative approach was first followed. A six month follow-up imaging study demonstrated a small increase in size and a decision was made to proceed with a surgical excision.
A laparoscopic excision of a paracaval, retroadrenal mass is demonstrated. The lesion measured 8 x 4.5 cm and pathologic examination reported a Ganglioneuroma. The patient recovered uneventfully
