Lumbar hernias remain a challenge to repair due to the difficulty in achieving adequate mesh fixation and overlap at the iliac crest, which bounds the inferior border of these hernias. We present a laparoscopic approach to the repair of a traumatic left lumbar hernia using the Arthrex Pushlock bone anchors, a system normally used by orthopedic surgeons in arthroscopic stability procedures of the shoulder and hip. This system provides a novel way to ensure excellent mesh fixation at the iliac crest in laparoscopic lumbar hernia repairs.
