RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a clinical leader to join Monmouth Medial Center as Chair of the Department of Surgery in Long Branch, NJ.
The Chair of the Department of Surgery oversees all activity related to surgeons and the Operating room including surgical outcomes. The Chair will also have an academic appointment with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and will be responsible for leading all teaching and research activity within the Department, including medical students and graduate medical educational programs. Moreover, the Chair will be charged with creating and implementing a strategic vision for the Department and take an active role in building surgical programs, growing market share, and anticipating changes inherent in the implementation of health care reform.
RWJBarnabas Health’s recent partnership with the Rutgers University Division of Biological and Health Sciences and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the state, creates an unprecedented opportunity for programmatic and academic development at MMC. As such, candidates with clinical expertise in oncologic related surgical fields are desirable.
Qualifications include the following:
– Board Certification in General Surgery ideally with added qualifications and boards in a subspecialty area related to oncologic surgery
– Ability to meet the requirements for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
– Keen understanding for developing and leading ACGME accredited residency programs
– Previous experience in clinical leadership as Department Vice Chair, as well as experience in healthcare quality, resource management, outcomes improvement, patient safety, and the patient experience
– 7+ Years in medical leadership within large, sophisticated, organizations with significant educational programs
– Track record of success in working with both voluntary and full-time employed physicians
– Political savvy, emotional intelligence, and ability to effectively interact at both the multihospital system and local levels
– Experience with system integration and change management
About MMC Department of Surgery
The Department of Surgery at Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) consists of 138 physicians and is comprised of 11 surgical sections, including colon and rectal surgery, general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, urologic surgery, and vascular surgery. The Department also includes a fully accredited residency program in general surgery with four categorical residents per year.
