Job Description

The Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a clinical research fellow to start July 1, 2018 for a 12 month period. The ideal candidate should have completed at least a year of dedicated research curriculum in surgery and has two or more peer-reviewed publications.

The applicant should have a strong clinical interest in diseases of the foregut, as research encompasses disease management either endoscopically, laparoscopically, robotically, or a hybrid. The department works closely with the Department of Bariatric Surgery as well as system-wide including over 40 hospitals in the North Texas area, providing a unique work experience at the hospital and system level of one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States. The fellow will be working with several attending surgeons, a clinical research coordinator, several research assistants, clinical fellows, medical students, and surgery residents.

The fellow will conduct his/her own research as well as assist in the department’s ongoing research and data collection. The fellow will also be expected to organize and gain approval for research within the division by completing IRB protocols, manage and maintain data registries, participate in research meetings, write and submit manuscripts, and present and attend local and national society meetings.

The fellow will also gain skills in creating reproducible and scientifically valid data and learn how to function in a highly collaborative environment. The fellow will also benefit by gaining:

This position will expose the research fellow to a significant amount of research design, education, and clinical data. The fellow will be evaluated based on his/her performance with participation in designated research projects and ability to meet deadlines and publish novel research at the peer-reviewed level.
