Job Description

The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a full-time, fellowship trained, Adv GI/MIS (+/- Bariatric) surgeon to join our well-established Division of MIS and Bariatric Surgery. NOTE: this position is in addition to our Abdominal Wall/MIS surgeon. For this position (Minimally Invasive Surgeon), expertise or training in the spectrum of MIS surgery (foregut, bariatrics, advanced endoscopy, and abdominal wall reconstruction) and a willingness to practice general surgery as part of our MIS team are mandatory. Candidates should be able to deliver high-quality patient care, be excited about participating in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students, and be involved in a scholarly clinical or basic science research program. Interested candidates should be dynamic, innovative individuals with experience, training, and interest in contributing to our outstanding MIS team.

The successful applicant must have a strong interest in clinical practice and a demonstrated background in research, education, and training. The ideal applicant should have a desire to develop a robust and academically-focused clinical practice while being integrally involved in the education and training of our MIS fellow, general surgery residents and medical students. The Department provides an extensive infrastructure to support both clinical, HSR, and basic science research interests.

This position is in the Division of MIS and Bariatric Surgery and will perform minimally invasive general surgery services to include complex foregut surgery, bariatric surgery, advanced endoscopic procedures, and abdominal wall surgery/reconstruction, in addition to the full breadth of general surgery. If interested and appropriately trained, the successful candidate may perform open, laparoscopic and robotic abdominal wall surgery via our Hernia Center and/or contribute as an active member of our MBASQIP accredited bariatric surgery program. Participation in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students, and involvement in a scholarly clinical or basic science research program is required. The successful candidate will participate in professional, public, and university service.

The candidate must have the credentials that meet the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health criteria for promotion of appointment on the CHS track.

Candidates must possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank. The candidate must have the credentials that meet the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health criteria for promotion or appointment on the Clinical Health Sciences Track. Rank will depend on candidate's interest and academic credentials. Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin Medical License.
