A General Surgery locum opportunity is available at a rural hospital 2 hrs from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
The successful candidate will cover the practice of a current full time general surgeon for the period of 9-12 months starting March 2019. Dates and duration are somewhat flexible .
The ideal candidate will be a practicing general surgeon in Canada and endoscopy skills are required. The locum surgeon join two other general surgeons and will be responsible for inpatient and outpatient general surgery consultation and follow up, elective and emergency surgeries as well as on-call duties. Call requirement is approximately 1:3. The locum position includes operating and admitting privileges, access to OR time, endoscopy and minor procedures clinic time.
The applicant must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery and must hold a full license or defined license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS). Remuneration will be fee for service (MSI fee schedule) and on call stipend proportionate to coverage provided.
Services include a 24-hour emergency department, ICU ( 5 beds), acute medical and surgical and obstetrical care, diagnostic imaging including ultrasound, CT and MRI. Anesthesia services are provided by 3 GP anesthetists.
The town is a college town, has a population of 18,000, with a large catchment area. There is easy access to winter recreational activities in nearby provincial parks. The town has a recreational center with pool and arena, and an active arts community with live theater.
