Job Description

The University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery is
seeking a board certified or board eligible colorectal surgeon to join the Department of Surgery.
This position will be within the Division of General Surgery with a joint appointment in the
Division of Surgical Oncology. Experience in minimally invasive procedures, including robotic,
is particularly desirable. This position is being recruited at the Open Rank level; salary and rank
commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The UNM Department of Surgery currently consists of fellowship-trained surgical oncologists
and colorectal surgeons who provide multidisciplinary care of patients with a full spectrum of
benign and malignant colorectal diseases. Surgeons in our group are actively engaged in
undergraduate as well as graduate medical education, including residents in General Surgery and
fellows in Complex General Surgical Oncology, Gynecology Oncology, and Urogynecology.
The UNM Department of Surgery boasts a robust infrastructure of services and resources to help
achieve academic goals, and leadership opportunities are available.

UNM serves a large, medically complex population and is a consultative resource for the State
of New Mexico and the Four Corners region of the Southwest. Outpatient surgical services are
provided through the UNM Hospital, UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center, and the UNM
Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated
Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. The UNM Health Science Center (HSC) is the largest
academic health complex in the state of New Mexico. Located on the University of New Mexico
campus in beautiful Albuquerque, NM, the HSC combines its four mission areas – educations,
research, patient care and community outreach – to provide New Mexicans with the highest level
of health care.

New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment, the city of Albuquerque is a beautiful city
with mountain to the east and a mesa to the west. It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports all
year round including running, hiking, biking and skiing. The State of New Mexico is
multicultural and diverse with excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple cultural and
historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains.

Minimum Qualifications for Position:
 Medical Doctor or equivalent
 Board-certified/board-eligible Colorectal Surgery
 Board-certified/board-eligible in General Surgery through the American Board of
Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent.
 Must be eligible for medical licensure in New Mexico
 Must be eligible for State of New Mexico Board of Pharmacy certification and federal
DEA registration
 Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications for Position:
 Interest and proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques
 Interest and proficient in robotic surgery
