Sayre, PA – Guthrie Medical Group seeks a dynamic, innovative, experienced and strategic leader as the Chair of Surgical Services to join this fully integrated system in the Twin Tiers of northern Pennsylvania and southern upstate New York.
The Guthrie Clinic is an integrated health system founded in 1910. It has grown to a multi-specialty practice with more than 500 physicians and advanced practice providers, five hospitals and 32 ambulatory care sites across 22 communities. Serving a large population of people over a wide geographic area, Guthrie is designed to offer patients a full spectrum of health services incorporating primary care, complex specialty care, behavioral health services, surgical services, inpatient care, durable medical equipment services, home health, long-term care, palliative care and hospice care. Guthrie’s integrated approach creates a better experience for patients and is working to decrease the cost of the delivery of health care. Guthrie is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network and is the first health system based in Pennsylvania and New York to join this network. This innovative health system was an early adopter of the electronic health record (EHR), beginning the implementation of Epic in 2003. Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital was the very first EPIC implementation of Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) in the inpatient setting.
The Chair will ensure that the department functions effectively within the integrated system of care; improve performance while realizing robust growth in breadth and depth of clinical programs; and will lead the enhancement of quality outcomes. With procedural growth of 18% over the past five years, the Chair will have the task of continuing this momentum and elevating the surgical services further in years to come. The Chair will have an active role in the growth and development of the surgical residencies collaborating with the respective Program Directors. Overall, the Chair will develop a sense of team between all the sections of surgery at the different hospitals providing a uniform and organized standard of care where everyone feels a positive connection across Guthrie.
A proven track record as an effective leader of physician staff, medical support staff and other personnel is essential. The Chair will mentor, guide and support a broad group of physician leaders as well as junior staff and residents alike. As Chair of Surgical Services, she/he must be able to inspire the staff, physicians and trainees through a keen understanding of what is required for success, frequent and effective communication, transparency, optimism and a demonstrated commitment to the success of individuals in the Department. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated the capability to oversee the financial and business affairs of a department. Qualified candidates must have an MD or DO from an accredited medical school, be board certified in a surgery discipline and eligible for medical licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.
