Job Description

The University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery is seeking a
full time academic Minimally Invasive / General and Gastrointestinal surgeon for the UNM Division of
General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery. This position is being recruited at an open rank, and open
track; salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery offers services for the surgical treatment of large
spectrum of diseases including hernias, biliary, benign foregut and diaphragm. We also treat complex
pathology and are a referral center for revisional surgery. Surgeons in our group are actively engaged in
undergraduate as well as graduate medical education, including residents in General Surgery. The UNM
Department of Surgery boasts a robust infrastructure of services and resources to help achieve academic
goals, and leadership opportunities are available.

UNM serves a large, medically complex population and is a consultative resource for the State of New
Mexico and the Four Corners region of the Southwest United States. Surgical services are provided
through UNM Hospital and UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center. The UNM Health Science Center
(HSC) is the largest academic health complex in the state of New Mexico and the only Level I Trauma
Center for the state. Located on the University of New Mexico campus in beautiful Albuquerque, NM, the
HSC combines its four mission areas – educations, research, patient care and community outreach – to
provide New Mexicans with the highest level of health care.

New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment, the city of Albuquerque is a beautiful city with
mountain to the east and a mesa to the west. It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports all year round
including running, hiking, biking and skiing. The State of New Mexico is multicultural and diverse with
excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple cultural and historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and
mountains.

This is a benefits eligible position. UNM provides a comprehensive package of benefits including

Minimum Qualifications:
* Medical Doctor or equivalent
 *Completion of a Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship
 *Board-certified/board-eligible in General Surgery through the American Board of Surgery or
American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent.
* Must be eligible for medical licensure in New Mexico
 *Must be eligible for State of New Mexico Board of Pharmacy certification and federal DEA
registration
 *Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Interest and proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery
 *Complex abdominal wall reconstruction is desirable
 *Experience in minimally invasive hernia repair
