Description

The Department of Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine and Medstar Health are recruiting for a Minimally Invasive trained surgeon to join the MIS General and Bariatric Surgery section at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, located in Washington, DC.

The ideal candidate is a surgeon with at least 2 years experience in advanced minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic procedures. Successful candidates will possess an M.D., board certification in general surgery by the ABS, advanced training/fellowship in MIS. Lastly, candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills and strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Join a high-volume, hospital-based MIS general surgery and bariatric practice that provides comprehensive care for elective general surgery and bariatric patients.
  • Manage a wide spectrum of general surgical conditions, with emphasis on minimally invasive approaches to abdominal, hernia, biliary, GI, and bariatric surgery.
  • Maintain an active elective surgical practice in alignment with the surgeon’s clinical interests and expertise.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Participate in the education of medical students and general surgery residents in the operating room, clinic, and didactic settings.
  • Contribute to institutional quality improvement initiatives and adhere to evidence-based surgical practices.

 

Qualifications:

  • MD from an accredited medical school; successful completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency.
  • Board certified or board eligible in General Surgery.
  • Fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), Bariatric Surgery, Complex Gastrointestinal Surgery, Foregut, Hernia and Abdominal wall, or comparable training is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in laparoscopic  surgical techniques, particularly in acute care and elective general surgery.
  • At least 2 years post-training experience.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in DC and Maryland.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a commitment to high-quality surgical care.
  • Demonstrated interest in academic surgery, teaching, and clinical excellence within a collaborative team environment.
