Description

Our one-year fellowship exposes the fellow to all aspects of colon and rectal surgery. The clinical experience is designed as a mentorship model with the fellow rotating with all faculty members. The fellow participates in the care of patients in all settings: outpatient office, hospital-based consultations (with our HCA Houston Faculty), endoscopy, and surgical procedures in both the inpatient operating room and outpatient surgery center. All faculty members are experienced with, and routinely perform, minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopy and robotic surgery.

There is a comprehensive didactic program throughout the year to enhance the clinical experience, which includes:

  • Core Curriculum conference -once a week
  • Departmental Grand Rounds
  • Tumor Board led by Program Director
  • Journal Club- Every other Month
  • Morbidity and Mortality conference
  • Pathology conference
  • Teaching rounds

Fellows also receive instruction in radiology techniques and interpretation as they pertain to colon and rectal surgery.

Our Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Program accepts one candidate per year at the PGY-6 level.

  • To qualify for a Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship program, you must have successfully completed a 5-year ACGME-accredited general surgery residency.
  • The residency must be completed at an accredited institution in the United States.
  • Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (USMLE, ABSITE, LMCC, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS, FLEX or NBME)
  • USMLE steps 1, 2 CK, 2 CS and 3
  • A letter of recommendation from a previous residency prog
  • At least two other letters of recommendation from surgeons who have worked with you clinically, in addition to the program director’s letter
  • Please have all letter writers complete the Association of Program Directors for Colon and Rectal Surgery (APDCRS)
