The Department has a long tradition of excellence and expertise in many clinical domains. With one of the busiest programs in the Midwest, surgeons at Rush University Medical Center offer a full range of surgical care with expertise in the latest minimally invasive techniques. The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery has a strong tradition of internal and external collaboration, research achievement and a commitment to clinical excellence.
The successful candidate is an excellent colon and rectal surgeon with experience in advanced laparoscopy and robotics and will have a strong record of collaborative and creative leadership. A commitment to excellence in clinical, research and academic service is essential. Ongoing research achievement, community engagement and educational excellence are highly desirable. The successful candidate must also be committed to mentoring faculty, trainees, and medical students. An established reputation in colon and rectal surgery and demonstrated experience in leading implementation of a vision through innovation and accountability are ideal. In addition, they will have credentials that merit appointment as Professor or Associate Professor, have an MD or equivalent degree, be American Board certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery, possess a demonstrated commitment to innovation, and have the leadership skills necessary for guiding faculty development and advancement across research, clinical and academic missions.
As a division leader, the Chief will provide an energetic and inventive vision for maintaining and growing, educational and research programs and continuing faculty development. The Chief will also work to facilitate collaborative work between a multidisciplinary group of physicians to grow and improve existing spheres of clinical care and develop new ones. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary program including GI tumor board as well as inflammatory bowel disease multidisciplinary clinic.
Providers in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery take a collaborative approach to the surgical and non-surgical management of the full range of colorectal conditions, working with multidisciplinary partners throughout the organization – including gastroenterologists, geneticists, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic and interventional radiologists, pathologists, urogynecologists and urologists – as well as referring providers in the communities we serve, to provide coordinated care tailored to the needs of each patient. In recognition of our high-quality, patient-centered care, the gastroenterology and GI Surgery program at Rush University Medical Center was ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
