Position Description:
The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic Abdominal Wall surgeon to join our Division of General Surgery. The Division of General Surgery is among 10 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 6 faculty members and two physician assistants who provide a broad array of clinical services including elective bariatric and hernia surgery as well as urgent and emergency general. Academic appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
Faculty members within the Division of General Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three missions of the department and UNC School of Medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions.
The candidate will have expertise in abdominal wall reconstruction including reconstruction associated with enterocutaneous fistulas, complex hernia repair, and candidates must also have experience with open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques. MIS fellowship with focus on advanced hernia repair and/or abdominal wall reconstructive surgery is preferred. The candidate will also be expected to take Acute Care Surgery call at our hospital in Hillsborough.
Selected candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division. Our faculty interact regularly with the hospitalist service, the Family Medicine service, outpatient primary care physicians, and surgeons from both UNC Healthcare and non-UNC referring hospitals.
