Mastery Surgery - Junior Associate

Maywood, Illinois

Temporary

Description

EDUCATION

Loyola University Medical Center

Maywood, IL

Number of Positions Offered: 1

Program Highlights

The Mastery in General Surgery Program at Loyola University Medical Center offers a flexible experience for the Junior Associate. The program is split between two sites: the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital and Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. The Junior Associate will have a weekly clinic and operative time at both the Hines VA and Gottlieb Hospitals allowing for autonomous and independent practice. The associate will have access to the DaVinci Xi robot at each practice site and is expected to graduate the program with the faculty support and volume necessary to meet credentialing requirements at other facilities.

Program Description

The curriculum for the Junior Associate will involve simultaneous rotations at the two sites. This is designed to represent a realistic community practice where the surgeon is on staff at two hospitals. The Program Director, Associate Program Director, and Department faculty are available at each site to support the Junior Associate as needed. The experience and the increased independence over the course of the year of training allows the Junior Associate to gain the confidence in decision making and surgical skills that are needed for independent practice.

The Junior Associate will learn practice management from the program faculty. In addition, the Junior Associate will complete a formal curriculum with the departments of billing and collections, medical liability, physician recruitment, contracting, and quality and patient safety. Lastly, the Junior Associate will have an academic title of Instructor of Surgery and be involved with supervising General Surgery residents. The associate will have 4 weeks of vacation time during the year.

Research is not a requirement for the position, but many opportunities exist within the Department of Surgery for interested candidates. Past graduates have gone on to successful general surgery practices in private practice, employed and academic settings.

Review of the Junior Associate application will be included as part of the initial assessment to set tangible goals for the year. Assessment includes a measurement of progress toward established individual and program goals, as well as clinical performance (operative, judgment, and management skills), professionalism, practice management skills, emotional intelligence, and teaching.
