Hospital Positions

Description

The Department of Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is seeking an academic surgeon within the Division of General, Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)/Bariatrics.  Candidates must be board-certified or eligible in General Surgery and have completed a fellowship in MIS.  Successful candidates must have experience and expertise in both general and minimally invasive surgery, including benign foregut, bariatric, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, as well as hernia and cholecystectomy, including open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery.   Excellent communication skills and an interest in working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment are essential.  Candidates must have, or be eligible for, a California medical license.

A strong interest in the teaching of surgical residents and medical students is vital.  Strong consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated leadership, a strong history of scholarly research, interest in working with an underserved population, and evidence of excellence in surgical education.  A recommendation for an academic appointment to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA at the assistant, associate or professor level will be made, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is an academic teaching hospital affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and is located in southwest Los Angeles. The medical center is part of the Department of Health Services at Los Angeles County, and is a major public teaching hospital that treat many underserved patients. Thus there are ample opportunities for resident education, multidisciplinary collaboration and clinical research.  The hospital is also affiliated with the Lundquist Institute, a major independent research center.
