Description

The University of Arizona’s (UArizona) College of Medicine – Tucson (COM–T) seeks a dynamic, nationally recognized leader to serve as the next chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery, Geoffrey Gurtner, MD., the chief will work collaboratively with the leaders of COM–T and Banner – University Medicine to build upon excellence in existing clinical, teaching, and team-based research programs and position the division for growth and transformation. The Division of Surgical Oncology is housed within the department of surgery and provides the full range of surgical oncology services including colorectal cancer, hepato-pancreato-biliary cancer, endocrine tumors, upper GI cancers, HIPEC, melanoma, and sarcoma. The Division is affiliated with and provides all care the University of Arizona Cancer Cancer, which is the only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the state of Arizona. Faculty provide clinical services and mentor trainees at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, Banner – University Medical Center South, and University of Arizona Cancer Center.

  • The next chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology will have the opportunity to provide strategic leadership and direction for the growth of the division. He or she will set a clear vision and execute on this vision. This division chief will have the opportunity to advance the division through multidisciplinary clinical care, advanced and innovative surgical services, research, education, and service.
  • The chief will inspire, develop, and lead an accomplished team of faculty and mentor trainees, drive the development of clinical programs, and create accountability in the division. He or she is expected to exhibit leadership and consensus-building within and beyond the division and the department. To elevate the division to the next level, this leader will be expected to strategically recruit and retain talented faculty to support clinical growth, expand the division’s research footprint, improve the national reputation of surgical oncology at UArizona and Banner Health, and ensure excellence in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Work closely with the Oncology Service Line leaders and UACC leaders to lead strategic growth in oncology.
  • Provide clinical services and mentor trainees at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, Banner – University Medical Center South.
