The Division of Bariatric and Gastrointestinal Surgery and Department of Surgery at VCU Health, is seeking a qualified general surgeon to join the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center and our Division at the VCU Health. This position is a junior level, non-tenure track position. The candidate should have or be completing a fellowship in Advanced GI/MIS, Bariatric and Foregut Surgery, and desire to continue to practice and support the General Surgery activities in all VCU Campuses. Academically, preferred candidates would have interest and experience in translational or outcomes research. He or she should also possess leadership experience, and ability to cultivate relationships with internal and external physician groups in the community.
The mission of the Division of Bariatric & Gastrointestinal Surgery of the Department of Surgery is to deliver high quality and accessible medical care and the advancement of science through research and the training of undergraduate and graduate students in our discipline. The Department fosters a level of research and professional activity essential to the graduate and to the professional growth of the faculty. The Division provides junior faculty with clinical and
research experiences that prepare them for their professional careers. The Division is committed to enhance diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Finally, faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the university community.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities as a part of their role in an academic medical center setting. Oversight of residents and fellows as well as instruction in General, GI and Bariatric Surgery.
Clinical
Clinical responsibility will be in the care of the General, GI and Bariatric Surgery patients at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center and all clinical sites that our Division at the VCU Health practices.as well as VCU. He/she will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department’s leadership.
Research
Faculty member is expcted to participate in research activities and/or collaborate with others on research projects and endeavours.
Required Qualifications:Â
- Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery, and have or be completing a fellowship in Advanced GI/MIS, Bariatric and Foregut Surgery
- Commitment to teaching and education of medical students and other trainees
- Ability to work in a complex matrixed environment with a high emotional intelligence
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
