Congratulations!
We welcome you as a member of a dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking leadership group. We take great pride in the accomplishments of SAGES and the working group that has made those accomplishments possible.
This site is designed to “get you up to speed” as a board member. We urge you to review each and every link, and also carefully read the board material that will be sent via emailed website link prior to our Board meetings. The more educated you become regarding the functions and structure of the Society, the more effective you will be as a Board Member.
There are a few CRITICAL responsibilities incumbent upon you as a Board Member:
- Be an active participant in Board Meetings. Read in advance and SPEAK UP. Currently the Board of Governors convenes twice per year: Once on the Wednesday of the SAGES Annual Meeting and once at a special weekend retreat in November. We ask that you attend the full meeting, staying until the end for all necessary votes, except in extraordinary circumstances.
- Respond promptly to any Board e-voting requests during the year.
- Participate in Journal article reviews if asked.
- Support the SAGES Foundation!
- Make sure you are certified in FES, FLS and FUSE.
Please mark your calendar now for the SAGES Spring Board Meeting on Wednesday, March 29th in Montreal.
Your vision, your knowledge, and your experience are some of the attributes that led to your nomination to the Board of Governors. For those same reasons, we look forward to your input and insight in the coming years as a member of the Board.
On behalf of the entire Board of Governors, welcome aboard!
Background
The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Overall Mission and Background
SAGES, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, was founded in 1981 with the mission of improving quality patient care through education, research, innovation and leadership, principally in gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgery.
Representing a worldwide community of nearly 7,000 surgeons, SAGES seeks to bring excellence in and access to minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and emerging techniques to patients around the globe.
Our Mission:
Innovate, educate, and collaborate to improve patient care.
Our Vision:
Reimagining surgical care for a healthier world
Key Partners
The SAGES Education & Research Foundation
The SAGES Education & Research Foundation was created with the vision of a healthcare world in which all operative procedures are accomplished with the least possible physical trauma, discomfort, and loss of productive time for the patient. The SAGES Foundation achieves its mission by supporting reproducible scientific research, graduate and postgraduate education, and public information. For every $1 donated to the foundation SAGES receives $2.50. For information, visit www.sagesfoundation.org.
Surgical Endoscopy
Surgical Endoscopy is the official journal of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). Surgical Endoscopy represents the surgical aspects of interventional endoscopy, ultrasound, and other techniques in the fields of gastroenterology, obstetrics, gynecology, and urology, as well as in gastroenterologic, thoracic, traumatic, orthopedic, and pediatric surgery. It offers a worldwide forum for discussion of aspects of interventional endoscopy and ultrasound as integral elements of surgical practice. It also affords the international surgical community a focal point for the exchange of information on practice, theory, and research in various medical and surgical disciplines. Participation as a reviewer is critical to the success of our journal, expected of all SAGES leaders, and tracked on your SAGES CV. EAES (Our European sister society) is our partner in the journal, and Springer Nature is our publisher. For more information, visit www.sages.org/publications/journals.
