As you know, many general surgery chief residents are considering additional surgical training in the fields of Advanced Gastrointestinal, Advanced Minimally Invasive GI Surgery, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary, Bariatric or Flexible Endoscopy. However, many past residents have discovered how difficult it is to find and secure one of these fellowships, experiencing uncertainty and lack of direction through the process. To address this and other related needs, the Fellowship Council was founded to standardize the application process for both fellowship applicants and fellowship directors, as well as assist in regulating the educational experience during fellowship.
More than 150 fellowship programs throughout the United States and Canada, representing over 200 fellowship positions, participate in the Fellowship Council match. A new change of particular note for this match is the fellowship start date of August 1, 2016 to accommodate the shift of the American Board of Surgery Qualifying examination to July 19, 2016 and to allow graduating residents time to relocate for fellowship.
The application period closes on February 16, 2015. For more information on applying, visit: https://fellowshipcouncil.org/
