Benefits of Military Committee on SAGES

SAGES has a Military Working Group.  Members include retired, prior service and those currently on Active Duty in the United States Army, Air Force and Navy.  The list of those who have served in the military and are currently active in SAGES includes the immediate past President of SAGES, Steven Schwaitzberg (LTC-R(ret), veteran of the Gulf War), co-founder of SAGES, Barry Salky (LTC (ret), veteran of the Vietnam War), past President of SAGES Rick Satava (COL (ret), USA), and the current President of the ASMBS, Robin Blackstone, (MAJ).  There are many others and we would like to recognize their service and contributions to surgery and the military. The current members represent the advanced laparoscopists of the military who also specialize in bariatrics, single incision surgery, NOTES, endolumenal therapy, telemedicine and simulation training.

The current focus of the committee has been to improve quality assurance and patient safety across the military for advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures like bariatrics.  We have also focused on the promotion and advancement of technologic advancements in the military like POEM, robotic surgery, and telemedicine.  Finally, we have helped to advance the simulation techniques to improve battlefield medicine and reintegration into non-combat practice.

Join this group now to help integrate the surgical technological advancements into the military.  It is the most active and 2nd largest group of tri-service surgeons in the world.  SAGES has been a proud supporter of the military.  It has reduced membership rates for active duty surgeons at $60/year and waives the fee completely during years when one is deployed.
