SAGES/APDS/ASE Surgical Educators Forum

This forum will review the new national skills curriculum, including its content, access, and how to implement it. Related issues including educational institute accreditation, skills center development and administration, the science supporting skills transfer, cognitive task analysis and its role in teaching skills, and SAGES offerings in minimally invasive skill development will be reviewed. Attendees should be well equipped after this forum to apply the material in their own institutional efforts in skills training across the spectrum of surgical learners.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this forum, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the components of the National Skills Curriculum
  • Appreciate the goals and merits of ACS education institute accreditation
  • Outline pitfalls and solutions in skills center development and organization
  • Understand the scientific foundation of skills transfer
  • Describe the process of cognitive task analysis and its role in teaching skills
  • Review validated SAGES educational resources for skill development
