Technical Aspects of Laparoscopic Liver and Pancreas Surgery
10:00 AM - 5:00 pm
Chair: Theodore N. Pappas, MD
Course Description:
Recent advances in minimally invasive surgery techniques and technology have broadened the application of laparoscopy in hepatobiliary surgery. This course is designed to provide practicing surgeons technical strategies for applying laparoscopy to operations for the liver, pancreas, and bile duct. Speakers will use video presentations to facilitate understanding of the technical aspects and outcomes of laparoscopic: liver resections, hepatic ablation therapy, management of liver cysts, common bile duct exploration, pancreatic resections, management of pseudocysts, pancreatic debridement. The course will also address the strategy for endoscopic biliary treatment. Moderators will discuss benefits and pitfalls and emphasize key aspects of each procedure.
Objectives:
Laparoscopic Liver Surgery
- Technical aspects of laparoscopic right liver resection
- Technical aspects of laparoscopic left liver resection
- Expected short and long term outcome after laparoscopic liver resection
- Technical aspects of laparoscopic liver ultrasound & biopsy
- Technical aspects and expected outcome of laparoscopic management of liver cysts
Laparoscopic Pancreas Surgery
- Technical aspects of laparoscopic pancreatic tail resection
- Technical aspects of laparoscopic drainage of pseudocysts
- Technique and outcome of laparoscopic debridement of pancreatic necrosis
- Technique and controversies concerning splenic preservation during tail resection
- Expected outcome after laparoscopic pancreas surgery
Laparoscopic Bile Duct Surgery
- Technical aspects of laparoscopic common duct exploration
- Expected outcome after laparoscopic common duct exploration
