COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Minimally invasive surgery has transformed our operating rooms. Understanding the components of this advanced technology is an essential skill in mastering the Operating room environment in the new millennium. Nurse professionals will need to be proficient in providing exceptional patient care while balancing the expanding demands of highly technical knowledge. This course will help you face the challenges of the future.
OBJECTIVES:
On completion of this seminar, the participant will:
- Understand key elements in designing an efficient state-of the art Minimally Invasive surgery suite
- Be able to identify important complications related to laparoscopic surgery both in the operating room and intra-operatively
- Be able to describe the supporting role of the RNFA in the perioperative process
- Realize the fundamental steps to research design and the importance of outcome data collection
- Assess the different needs of a wide range of patients from pediatric to morbid obese patients
- Identify effective methods for room setup, appropriate instrumentation, equipment and safe patient positioning for advanced MIS procedures
- Recognize the technical difference in laparoscopic fundoplications, the current indications and controversy
- Become familiar with the most current MIS trends in treatment of hepatic tumors and understand the role of cryo therapy, heat ablation and hepatic artery pump placement vs. resection
